Voting membership

To be eligible for public grants to build homes, we need to show we have wide support in the community we serve, so we need to sign up as many voting members as we possibly can.

To be a voting member, you will need to:

  • be over 18 years of age
  • be on the electoral register of one of the three parishes
  • buy at least one share in START (costs just £1 for life)

The more money we can raise from our own community, the more chance we have of winning support from funding agendas and other help so please buy as many shares as you can – you will only get one vote, but you will help us much more.

To sign up and buy share, please contact us.

To help in other ways:

There are all sorts of ways you can help, whether or not you sign up as a voting member. Please look at the options below.

Option 1: Join our mailing list

If you don’t want to be a voting member, but you still want to keep up to date on our activities, sing up to our mailing list – we promise not to share your details with anyoue else accept as required by law

Option 2: Become a sponsor

We’re planning to build up a group of commercial sponsors (local or otherwise) who want to support our work. We’ll be discussing this with local businesses once we’re fully up and running. If you’re interested, please get in touch.

Option 3: Become a donor

We hope what we’re trying to do will win support right across out three communities and beyond. As explained below, we’re planning to get a lot of funding from government and other grants, but we’ll need a lot of funding once we start building homes, and we’d rather not be totally dependent on the government. Please get in touch.

Option 4: Offer us a site

As we’ve explained, it will be up to our members to approve any plans we get forward for choosing sites but we are already working on lots of possible sites. CLTs can often get permission to develop areas that commercial developers would not be allowed to touch. If you would like to discuss a site with us, please get in touch with us.

Option 5: Apply for a house

As explained we don’t expect to have houses to offer for some time. We’re already started to build up an application list though if you likely to be looking for an affordable home in our area, please get in touch with us.

Option 6: Volunteer to help

Eventually we’re going to need people to help with everything from delivering leaflets and collecting subscription, to admin design and planning.
